As state fairs go the Smithers 100th Anniversary Fair has to rate highly in all state fairs. the Fairground is a permanent setup with rings for horse jumping, rodeo, bull riding, a sound stage, permanent barns for all sorts of livestock and more. But it’s a family affair, with complete fun fair, playgrounds, canine trick shows, a clown stage and more. there is also a “street” of “shops” selling anything from local made goods to insurance, loans and more. Always “and more”. This is a truly spectacular effort, and as a Rotarian in Jacksonville Oceanside Rotary Club, I was really impressed with the food vendor -Smithers Rotary Club.
The pictures tell a number of stories, and I’ll let you work out which are which from the following descriptions.
Carriage Horse Pulls
Catch a steer
Team catch and mount a wild horse
Rodeo – look for the guy who tried two different horses with the same result.
Lumber Jack Axe Throwing
Lumber Jack Pole Cut
Lumber Jack Female Saw Cut
Lumber Jack Female Log Chop
Hammer the Nail in – by the way he held off to let her win – no not sexist – sensible as she was his girlfriend!!
I did not see the whole show – the four day event would take anyone two days to see it all and still some.
Congratulations to a great community in Smithers, neighboring Telkwa, and all the other communities in the area. there is clearly a huge community spirit.
