Located at the bottom of the Kenai Peninsular (pronounced Keen eye) the town of Homer is said to be, claims to be, the Halibut fishing capital of the world. by the size of some Halibut we have seen caught that is probably true. We chatted to a fisherman at the beach and he had 30lb fish that had 40 crabs in its belly. Tomorrow, Saturday I am going out for a day’s Halibut fishing so we will see!

The Homer Spit is a peninsular that leads out into the ocean and has more RV spaces than any place I have seen – we are staying at Anchor Point about 10 miles north thank goodness. Homer is a real tourist area as you would expect, and the RVs are only outnumbered by the boats. It seems everyone in Alaska has a boat and/or a plane. In the summer they are on floats, in the winter on skis, and sometimes on wheels. I guess with only about eight major roads it’s the way to go. How i would like to back in the left seat!

So off we went along the estuary and found those shots of the glaciers and mountains, and the Moose who was about 20 yards off the road. There is a weed that we have seen in Canada and here called Fireweed . It is popular with the animals, and looks fantastic, as the shots show.

We are currently taking shots of eagles on the beach here at Anchor Point so watch this space.
