Ellmsworth Air Force Base and Deadwood

These were the final two stops from our Rapid City Base. Ellmsworth still very active and was the center of the Minuteman Missile program during the cold war. We visited a silo and the picture shows a look down the hole with a missile in place. there were 1,000 of these throughout South Dakota, North Dakota and Montana all with nuclear warheads of 1.2 Kilotons and all aimed at Russia. Deterrents work it seems. the base has a great museum as some of the pictures show.

Deadwood is deadwood – an old street , a notorious bar where Bill was shot, and two famous graves.
